As a caregiver, your day to day obligations and responsibilities don’t always line up with the schedules of a day program, school, or vocational training program. The Arc Mercer recognizes the need for family members to feel secure in knowing that while they finish their work day, a loved one with a developmental disability is safe and actively engaged with other people. The Aftercare and Saturday Respite Programs were designed to support family members trying to juggle the responsibilities of work, family and home life.
The Aftercare Program is offered Monday through Friday from 2-6pm on the campus of the Mercer County Special Services School District. We welcome students of high school age through adulthood, offering a full range of activities to engage all age levels. Participants enjoy events including Art, Musical Performances and Exploration, Drama, Horticulture/Landscaping, games, dance parties-and the list goes on and on! The Aftercare Program participants also work together to plan, create and produce their own newsletter-a large source of pride for everyone involved!
Saturday Respite is another option offered to families through the Arc Mercer. This program is offered weekly on Saturdays from 9am through 2pm, allowing caregivers the opportunity to run errands, take care of household tasks, or simply have time to care for themselves. It is another valuable chance for an individual with a developmental disability to increase their social network, develop their social skills and have their own “social life.” Saturday Respite is based out of our 180 Ewingville Rd location, however as a social/recreational program, they can’t be contained to one location! This group loves to get out to a variety of locations such as flea markets, parks, shopping, etc, making this a valuable experience for individuals and their family members!
