The Arc Mercer’s Visual Arts Program has been partnering with Grounds For Sculpture over the past year offering guided tours and art workshops to the individuals that we serve. These workshops have been part of our agency-wide effort to offer our individuals more opportunities for integration in the community. We are so grateful that Grounds For Sculpture has welcomed us with open arms and allowed our individuals the unique experience of walking through their beautiful sculpture gardens and learning new art-making techniques. We look forward to the future of this partnership as it continues to flourish.

On Saturday, May 20, Grounds For Sculpture, together with the Art Educators of New Jersey, hosted a professional development panel talk and presentation for area educators titled “Engaging Students With Special Needs in Your Art Class.” As the Arc Mercer’s Visual Arts Program Manager, I was invited to be on the panel and give a presentation on our wonderful, innovative visual arts program.   I was thrilled to share the successes and activities of our unique art program with art educators who may be struggling to accommodate students with special needs in their art classes. There were several presenters with diverse backgrounds in working with special needs and art on the panel, and it was wonderful to be able to share our experiences with a community of dedicated art educators from all over the state.

The Arc Mercer’s Visual Arts Program continues to strive to provide meaningful and engaging art experiences in our classrooms and in our community for the individuals that we serve. We also strive to educate the community by providing opportunities for integration of special needs individuals.
