The Arc Mercer is a grassroots, family focused organization dedicated to creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to achieve their goals. We believe everyone is a valued, contributing member of our community at large. Our focus is to provide those we serve with the resources, support, and services needed to reach their highest level of independence regardless of diagnosis, and at all stages of life. As a leader in our field, we are committed to offering innovative, person-centered services rooted in progression and based in the community. Being an active participant in our community means not just creating opportunities for people with I/DD, but also encouraging engagement with our organization through meaningful volunteerism and employment options. Whether you are a seasoned Direct Support Professional or starting off in the social services field, The Arc Mercer is always searching to identify qualified talent for our intern, volunteer and employment opportunities. Arc Mercer provides competitive pay, exceptional benefits and training/career development to retain staff. Below is direct feedback from our tenured staff on their experience working at Arc Mercer.

Steve Ronin,
Employment Manager, Employment Center

Steve has worked for Arc Mercer for 36 years and 3 months. He ensures our consumers are employed in the local community, as well as trains and develops them to be successful in their employment. Steve says, “I like the idea of partnering with consumers. It provides me with a sense of accomplishment and pride ensuring they are happy, growing personally, professionally and socially; you can’t put a price on that. I also like working with co-workers that have the same mindset”.

Rosetta Nance,
Overnight Direct Support Professional, Residential Services

Rosetta has worked for Arc Mercer for 25 years and 5 months. Rosetta became interested in working with children that were mentally challenged. She began her career in our Step Ahead program. Part of her role is to ensure the safe transportation of individuals to approved recreational or social activities including community integration and educational trips. This encompasses monitoring and supporting individuals served in all external activities. She ensures individuals served are under proper care when handed off to another program or staff member and accounted for at all times. She states, “what has kept me at the Arc Mercer are the people I have met and worked with throughout the years, working with the consumers, taking them to the park, their scheduled appointments and movies. It is interesting to me to watch them grow and change over time. Giving of my time, dedication and experience in helping someone with a disability has its rewards.”  Rosetta mentioned a recent experience in which she took a consumer to the welfare office while there, an 82 year old lady recognized the consumer as someone she had once worked with when the client was just a child. The consumer, now 51 years of age, she remarked how she had changed and was happy to see how independent she’d become. Rosetta stated “this is the reason I continue to work for The Arc Mercer and I like the company’s growth and expansion opportunities as well.”

Jean Palmer, HUD Accountant, Finance Department

Jean has worked for the Arc Mercer for 35 years and 10 months. As HUD Project Administrator, Jean handles accounting and budgets for group homes, ensuring they are funded, as the homes provide a place for consumers to live and maintain their independence. Jean is excited about the services the organization provides for consumers, especially at the Employment Center. The Employment Center offers vocational training to consumers and identifies employment opportunities which enables individuals to receive a paycheck. Jean states “it’s important that consumers are taken from institutions and placed into programs in the community where they become a productive and independent part of society. I love our consumers. They give you love and you love them right back. It’s especially nice to call them by name and they really enjoy that. When I am asked by the public, where do you work and I say the The Arc Mercer, right away they respond saying I know where that’s at. The Arc Mercer does good work. The fact that we’re so well-known and highly thought of, not only in this community, but also in my travels, makes me proud to be a part of this company”.
