In the heart of Arc Mercer's vocational training program shines a remarkable success story - that of Alton Hallback, a consummate example of dedication, initiative, and achievement.
Alton's journey with Arc Mercer began back in 2008 when he joined the organization's Occupational Training Center (OTC) as a consumer employee. Over the years, Alton has exhibited unwavering commitment and versatility, contributing his skills to various roles such as Janitorial, ShArc Shredding, and Pick, Pack & Ship, earning himself a reputation as a valuable team member.
Driven by a desire to explore new opportunities, Alton expressed interest in transitioning to the food service program. Given his track record of success and his demonstrated abilities across different position, Alton was granted the opportunity to train under Chef Jerry and the team at the 180 Cafe.
Rosemary Reed, one of our job coaches at OTC, is impressed with
Alton's natural hustle. She says his dedication to his work has positioned him as a standout talent in the kitchen environment.
“Honestly, I don't remember the last time I saw someone catch onto things as quickly as he seems to have, and he is taking his responsibilities extremely seriously. Additionally, he required absolutely no prompting from me to do anything from the moment that he walked in the door, and I can count the amount of consumers in five years who have taken that level of initiative on one hand. His hustle is also a great attribute which will lead to his success in a kitchen environment.”
Alton’s journey to becoming a thriving member of the cafe team exemplifies the core mission of Arc Mercer - to empower individuals with special needs to achieve their full potential and thrive in their chosen paths.
As Arc Mercer continues its commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities for personal and professional growth, Alton's success story stands as a shining example of the organization's impact on the lives of individuals within the special needs community.
