Honoring Dedication and Impact
Executive Director Steve Cook led the event, delivering remarks that underscored the vital contributions of the Arc Mercer’s frontline staff. Cook emphasized the agency’s commitment to celebrating the “99.9% of good”—the moments when staff go above and beyond in service to consumers, which often far outweigh any challenges.
This month’s honorees exemplified the dedication and compassion that drive the Arc Mercer’s mission forward.
December Rising Star of the Month: Michael Kostuk, Campus Day Program
Michael Kostuk was recognized as the December 2024 Rising Star of the Month. Known for his infectious positivity, Michael brings joy to those around him every day. He greets staff and peers with warmth and is always eager to cheer up others or lend a listening ear. His helpful nature and enthusiasm for supporting both staff and classmates make him a cherished member of the program.
Michael’s cousin Shawn attended the ceremony, witnessing firsthand the heartwarming impact the Arc Mercer has on its consumers. Seeing Michael’s radiant smile as he accepted the award reminded everyone present of the agency’s mission: helping consumers live not just comfortable but fulfilling lives.
December Employee of the Month: Tracy Young, DSP, Campus Day Program & Phaeton Residence
Tracy Young, a long-standing and highly respected member of the Arc Mercer team, was honored as December’s Employee of the Month. Tracy is deeply dedicated to building meaningful relationships with consumers, whether during her weekdays at the Mercer County Special Services District (MCSSD) Day Program and After Care or weekends spent at residential programs like Phaeton.
Tracy’s contributions extend beyond her daily duties. She is known for volunteering at consumer events and mentoring colleagues to better support consumers. Her compassionate and selfless nature has earned her admiration from peers and leadership alike.
In a touching moment, Tracy’s daughter Tiffany surprised her by traveling from Virginia to witness her mother’s well-deserved recognition. Tracy expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor, marking this as her first time receiving the award despite years of dedicated service.
Board Appreciation and Looking Ahead
Past Board President Rick Koreyva also attended the luncheon, speaking on behalf of the board of directors. He highlighted the board’s deep appreciation for the Arc Mercer’s staff, many of whom care for their loved ones. “Your dedication does not go unnoticed,” Korvega shared, emphasizing the vital role of mission-critical staff in delivering exceptional care.
The event concluded with a reminder that both Tracy and Michael are now eligible for the prestigious Employee and Rising Star of the Year awards, which will be announced at the Arc Mercer’s annual gala in November.
