The Arc Mercer recently hosted its March 2025 Team Atmosphere Committee (TAC) Awards Luncheon, a monthly event dedicated to recognizing the exceptional contributions of employees and celebrating important service milestones.

Executive Director Steve Cook, alongside nominators and honorees, led a ceremony filled with appreciation and camaraderie. Attendees, including staff, board members, and families, enjoyed a complimentary lunch while honoring the outstanding individuals who help make the Arc Mercer a thriving community.

Dawn Carmosino Team Impact Award Winner: Tabitha Vallon

The prestigious Dawn Carmosino Team Impact Award was presented to Tabitha Vallon, Senior Group Home Manager at Avalon, for her extraordinary leadership and dedication to the consumers and staff at the Avalon apartments. Tabitha’s ability to oversee multiple residences with grace, patience, and kindness has earned her the deep respect of both her team and the families of those she serves.

Her hands-on leadership and unwavering support have been instrumental in fostering a welcoming, supportive environment for consumers, helping them transition smoothly into independent living.

Tabitha was completely taken by surprise when her name was announced. In fact, moments before the event, she had been feeling disheartened because a consumer she had nominated for the Rising Star of the Month award did not win. This alone speaks volumes about her character—her first priority has always been the individuals she supports.

However, her disappointment quickly turned to overwhelming emotion as she learned that multiple members of The Arc Mercer’s Board of Directors, including the parents of Ari, the consumer that she wanted to win, had nominated her for this prestigious honor.

Board President Maria Fischer and board members Karen Carlson & Jeffrey Schulman shared heartfelt testimonials about Tabitha’s impact, particularly highlighting her support for their loved ones.

Under her guidance, individuals like Ari, a resident who previously struggled with social anxiety and behavioral challenges, have experienced remarkable progress. Thanks to the care and structure provided by Tabitha and her team, Ari has significantly reduced his reliance on medication and has become an active participant in social activities.

Tabitha was overwhelmed with tears of joy, deeply touched by the recognition from families and board members who have seen firsthand the difference she makes. Her ability to build community, both among consumers and staff, has made Avalon a truly special place. Her dedication and leadership exemplify the very best of the Arc Mercer. Congratulations, Tabitha, on this well-deserved honor!

Employee of the Month: Matthew Greaves

Recognized as the Employee of the Month for March, Matthew Greaves, DSP at Colonial Group Home, was also completely surprised by the honor. As his name was announced, a look of shock quickly turned into a beaming smile, reflecting just how much this recognition meant to him.

Matthew’s colleague and nominator, Christopher Wiefueh, praised his hard work, emphasizing that Matthew’s dedication to his job and the consumers truly sets him apart.

In addition to his role at Colonial, Matthew regularly picks up extra shifts in the day program, demonstrating his strong work ethic and deep commitment to the Arc Mercer’s mission. His willingness to go above and beyond ensures that consumers receive the highest level of care and support, making him a valuable asset to both teams.

This recognition was initiated by a peer—someone who works alongside Matthew every day and directly witnesses his commitment firsthand. Christopher and Matthew rely on each other daily, making this acknowledgment especially meaningful. The Employee of the Month program thrives on nominations from those on the frontlines—colleagues who see and appreciate the dedication and hard work of their peers. More nominations from staff members help recognize the unsung heroes who make a difference every day.

Anniversary: Honoring Valerie Wills' Dedication

This month, the Arc Mercer was also proud to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of Valerie Wills, Site Supervisor at OTC/Riverview. Over the past five years, Valerie has been a pillar of dedication and excellence, consistently going above and beyond to support both consumers and staff.

Her leadership has fostered a positive and structured environment, ensuring that those she serves receive the highest quality of care and guidance. Valerie’s unwavering commitment to the Arc Mercer’s mission has made a lasting impact, and her milestone anniversary is a testament to her hard work and passion.

Congratulations, Valerie, on this well-earned recognition, and thank you for your years of outstanding service!
