The Arc Mercer held its first Team Atmosphere Committee (TAC) meeting of the year on January 9, 2025. Facilitated by Sharon Boone, SBSS from the Special Needs Day Program, the meeting brought together a mix of seasoned staff and new hires from the most recent orientation. The atmosphere was vibrant and optimistic as the team shared updates, feedback, and plans for the year ahead.
Welcoming New Staff and Setting Goals
The meeting opened with introductions, allowing new hires to familiarize themselves with the team. Participants also shared their New Year’s resolutions, creating a sense of connection and a shared commitment to personal and professional growth.
Updates on Key Initiatives
Paid Sleep Program Pilot
A recap of the previous TAC meeting highlighted the ongoing development of the Paid Sleep Program Pilot. This innovative initiative will allow staff to rest during their shifts while still being paid. The program is still in the planning phase, with more updates expected in the coming months.
Pet Insurance Policies
The committee also shared exciting news about new pet insurance policies, set to roll out in February. These policies, part of the Arc Mercer’s enhanced benefits package, will be available when the agency transitions to the Paycom HRIS system.
A Focus on Mission-Critical Staff
Executive Director Steve Cook emphasized the symbolic structure of TAC meetings, where mission-critical staff—those directly involved in daily consumer care—lead discussions. Directors and administrators participate as supporters, sitting outside the main table. “This is your meeting,” Cook stated, highlighting the importance of centering staff feedback.
Premium Holiday Program
The December Premium Holiday Program was celebrated as a success. This initiative waived medical insurance premiums for employees who completed specified health tasks, resulting in higher take-home pay. For those who missed out, a second opportunity is coming in March. HR will provide detailed guidance to help staff qualify for this benefit.
