The Arc Mercer opened its first residential home in 1979 to provide for the welfare of the developmentally disabled and their families. Since that time, we have continued to expand our residential coverage a depth of opportunities and services for the residents of Mercer County.

We offer a home environment and comfortable living for each of our individuals while parents, siblings, and other advocates have the peace of mind of knowing that their family member is well taken care of. The homes are staffed by highly qualified employees of The Arc of Mercer, who are all comprehensively trained in supporting adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Each of the types of residential programs offers high-quality care to every resident.

Each residence is unique with individuals who have various life challenges. Not only do we obtain those services and supports needed for the individual, we strive to modify the environment so that when a person’s needs change we allow them to age in place. Each of our individuals is treated with the utmost dignity and respect. We provide opportunities for all individuals to enhance their overall quality of life by encouraging independence and self-actualization at home and in the community.

All residential programs offer a level of supervision, depending on the individuals’ needs. Each home and program vehicle is maintained by The Arc Mercer. Staffing supports include, but are not limited to: medical management, medication administration, grocery shopping and menu planning, emergency preparedness, transportation to and from errands and/or activities, budget assistance, recreational schedules, assistance with daily living skills, domestic skill building and personal enrichment services.

Housing Options

We offer a variety of living arrangements in order to enable consumers to be as self-sufficient as possible. Depending upon an individual’s level of independence, residents may live in group homes, supervised apartments, or supported living units.

GROUP HOMES have 2-7 individuals residing in them. Staffing supports are offered 24 hours a day. Group home staff coordinate schedules, perform household management tasks and assist residents with all daily living skills

SUPERVISED APARTMENTS have 1-2 individuals living together and offer staff on premises 24 hours a day; but not necessarily directly in the apartment. This offers individuals more freedom to be independent while assuring support staff availability through routine checks and immediate access through phone contacts.

SUPPORTED LIVING PROGRAMS have 1-2 individuals living together and have minimal assistance from support staff. They have staff a phone call away and a set amount of hours per week. Individuals who qualify for supported living programs must safely administer their own medications, handle an emergency appropriately, and maintain their home independently
