“The care my child received through Arc Mercer’s Health Care Center was the best he has ever had. His doctor, unlike most doctors who have treated him, understood that a gentle, patient manner would help put him at ease during his examination. Not only that, they were able to provide for his medical health and behavioral health at a single location - remarkable.” - Testimonial from Althea Robinson

The Health Care Center Provides:

Psychiatric Care and Individual, Family and Group Counseling
Behavioral Supports

Our team of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and counselors work in a coordinated system to ensure that our patients receive the support that they need.  We partner with the professionals in our Residential, Behavioral, and Family Services units to bring a whole-patient approach to care.

Our Behavior Team consists of Board Certified Behavior Analysists (BCBA) and Behavior Specialists.  BCBAs create individualized behavior support plans based on the needs of each individual to help them reach their highest possible level of achievement.  Behavior Specialists who are also Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) carry out plans with the oversight of the BCBA.  Behavior Specialists carry out the plans and oversee the direct care staff, implement interventions and train all those working with the consumer.  Data is collected and analyzed for trends in progress of treatment.

Mental health services including psychiatric care and on-site individual, group, and family therapy.  These services help present our consumers with new opportunities to develop the skills needed to express their wants, needs, and desires in a healthy, constructive manner.

Our nursing staff serve as Care Coordinators to facilitate communication between our residents' primary care physicians, specialists, mental health professionals, and the support system within The Arc Mercer.  No aspect of our patients' lives is not considered essential to their well-being.  Our coordinated treatment methods have resulted in outstanding outcomes including a dramatic decrease in emergency room visits and unscheduled hospitalizations for our patients.  It has also led to decrease in the use of psychiatric medications as well as admissions to a crisis center.  We provide care in a relaxed, comfortable environment which helps the patient feel at ease.
